The Pudu Wet Market

Pudu Market has a certain kind of charm to it. I mean, it is rare nowadays to have a large market under one roof with a clear division of Halal and non-Halal sections. Everybody knows about it, and we just get on with our business. It is a kind of reminiscence into the old Malaya where people respect each other’s culture and are proud of it.

Walking around Pudu makes me appreciate how the old rules apply. In the main dry market, the shops were intermixed between Malays, Chinese and Indians. Of course, the Malays stayed away from the non-Halal section in the wet market.

Unfortunately, compared to the times before the pandemic, there had been an apparent decline in the number of people coming to shop. In fact, the wet market had almost empty sections. Times are clearly not great ...
